The Bible alone is our creed. Jesus Christ alone is our Lord.
As a Church of Christ, we hold no human creed, no denominational confession, and no traditions that supersede the clear teaching of Scripture. We believe the New Testament provides a complete and sufficient pattern for Christian faith and practice — and we seek to follow it wholeheartedly. The beliefs below reflect what we have received from the apostles and what we teach openly in Duncan, BC.
We believe the entire Bible — both Old and New Testaments — is the divinely inspired, inerrant Word of God. It is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice. We look to the New Testament in particular as the pattern for Christian living and church order.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 | 2 Peter 1:20–21We believe in one eternal God who exists as three distinct persons: the Father, who created all things; the Son, Jesus Christ, who redeemed us; and the Holy Spirit, who indwells and guides believers. God is holy, just, loving, and sovereign over all creation.
Deuteronomy 6:4 | Matthew 28:19 | John 1:1We affirm that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
John 1:14 | 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 | Acts 2:36We believe salvation is entirely the gift of God's grace — received through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance of sins, and baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins. Baptism is not a human work earning merit but an act of faith in which God's grace is applied.
Ephesians 2:8–9 | Acts 2:38 | Romans 6:3–4We believe the Church is not a building or institution, but the people redeemed by Christ — His body, of which He is the head. The local church gathers regularly for worship, instruction, fellowship, and service. There is one Church, united in Christ, across all locations and generations.
Ephesians 1:22–23 | Matthew 16:18 | Acts 20:28We observe the Lord's Supper every Sunday, as the early church did. The unleavened bread and fruit of the vine are a memorial and proclamation of Christ's death until He comes — a moment of reflection, gratitude, and covenant renewal at the centre of our worship.
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 | Acts 20:7In keeping with the New Testament pattern, we worship God through singing alone — without instrumental accompaniment. We believe the human voice, lifted together in praise, is the instrument God ordained for corporate worship. Our a cappella singing is rich, participatory, and congregational.
Ephesians 5:19 | Colossians 3:16We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and in the future resurrection of all the dead. Those who have trusted in Christ and lived faithfully will receive eternal life in His presence; those who have rejected Him face eternal separation from God. This hope shapes how we live today.
John 11:25–26 | 1 Corinthians 15 | Revelation 20:12–15The Churches of Christ are part of a broad movement that began in the early nineteenth century with a simple, compelling goal: to restore the New Testament church in belief, practice, and spirit — and to call all Christians to unity on the basis of the Bible alone.
Our motto has long been: "In essentials, unity; in opinions, liberty; in all things, love." We do not claim to be the only Christians, but we do strive earnestly to be Christians only — following Jesus without the additions of human tradition or denominational creeds.
If you have questions about our beliefs — whether you are a long-time Christian curious about the Churches of Christ, or someone exploring faith for the first time — we would love to talk. Please contact us or visit any Sunday morning.
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."— 2 Timothy 2:15 (ESV)
